Oakland council to weigh thumbprints for ammo
As those of us in California continue to count the cracks in the dam of gun ownership the erosion continues...
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...BA9U1BR2EL.DTL Law to limit ammunition before Oakland council Any new public policy measure undertaken to reduce, regulate or limit access to the guns and ammunition that have contributed to the loss of human life across the nation's urban landscape is a step in the right direction. Toward that end, the Oakland City Council tonight is expected to weigh the merits of an ordinance that would impose license and regulatory requirements on the sellers of ammunition in the city. Under the new proposal, anyone who purchases ammunition would be required to provide a thumbprint. If approved, the city's chief of police would have the power to approve all new firearms dealers and impose strict rules on ammunition storage and record-keeping, matching existing state laws on handgun ammunition.... |
Re: Oakland council to weigh thumbprints for ammo
how can a council make a rule like this? I doubt this would stand up to anything let alone court. How big is Oakland anyways?
See it also says that it's policy, not law. My immediate response was the same as most J6P's are going to make. It's the police chief being given unchecked authority to adjudicate.... thats the job of a Judge over something called the constitution. Get that police chief sacked. Do it now@! oh and it wouldn't hurt to stack the council. |
Re: Oakland council to weigh thumbprints for ammo
Oakland is about 500,000 people. This is a mostly symbolic gesture.
There are not too many ammunition sellers within the city limits - I suppose the Wal-Mart on Hegenberger sells some, but that is about it. The years of anti-business regulation from the city has driven most of the retailers to the small cities on the fringe. San Leandro, Emeryville, and Walnut Creek. |

The Founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves.
http://goldismoney.info/forums/custo...tar5239_43.gif Never in their wildest nightmares did they think they actually needed to include the word "ammunition" in the Second Amendment. |
Re: Oakland council to weigh thumbprints for ammo
What makes this even sadder is that the entire state of California will require a thumbprint to purchase ammo starting on Feb. 1, 2011! So the city of Oakland simply jumping to the head of the class to take on NRA lawyers. Another stupid lawsuit they can't afford, just so they can look "tough on crime".

Re: Oakland council to weigh thumbprints for ammo
I didn't understand this law until 20 minutes ago - this stupid thumbprint law is not aimed at retail sales (since there are no ammunition sellers in Oakland) - it makes mail order purchases impossible.
Bastards! Went to pick up some of that 9mm HP ctrl-z posted about (all gone now :bawling:) - and the shipping rules explicitly call out Oakland as a no go! (So instead I shipped to a friends house 2 miles outside of Oakland.) |
Re: Oakland council to weigh thumbprints for ammo
This will do well to help the city depleted coffers.
Efffing idiots. T |
Re: Oakland council to weigh thumbprints for ammo
I used to have to cash 5 checks a week at BOA. (they require thumbprints if you don't have a account)
Solution, silicone caulk on thumb. Wait a while then imprint with your big toe. It will make a passable print. |
Re: Oakland council to weigh thumbprints for ammo
City council passes stupid law. People against law sue. City has to hire lawyers. City pays lawyers. Lawyers kickback to city council members some of the money. City council members get personally richer, lawyers get personally richer, while city populace gets poorer.
Business as usual. |
Re: Oakland council to weigh thumbprints for ammo
Restrictions on ammunition will be the easiest way to affect gun ownership, in my opinion. Ammunition restriction will find far less print than gun bans.
This will be the way they start in earnest to restrict those who own guns. No bullets = fancy club. I look for more of this on state and federal levels in the near future. Start with a thumbprint... incrementally reduce the import of foreign ammo...end with an all out ban on anything but plinking ammo. At that point, whats the use of owning arms you cant load? They are already gearing up for this stuff. I believe it was just last year they floated the trial balloon about destroying all casings used by military. Didn't work that time, but it shows the intent is there. |
